{"id":353,"date":"2018-09-01T10:23:18","date_gmt":"2018-09-01T14:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foggybottomline.com\/?p=353"},"modified":"2018-09-01T10:23:18","modified_gmt":"2018-09-01T14:23:18","slug":"saturday-morning-coffee-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foggybottomline.com\/?p=353","title":{"rendered":"Saturday Morning Coffee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Going through a few of the open tabs on my iPad with a cup of coffee this morning:<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/\"><em>Talking Points Memo<\/em>:<\/a>\u00a0I saw this Associated Press report:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/doj-lawyer-former-lawyer-russian-intelligence-trump-over-barrel\">DOJ Lawyer: Steele Said Russian Intelligence Believed it Had Trump Over a Barrel.\u00a0<\/a>Looks like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bruce_Ohr\">Bruce Ohr\u00a0<\/a>met with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christopher_Steele\">Christopher Steele<\/a>, who shared some information that did not make it into the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trump%E2%80%93Russia_dossier\">dossier\u00a0<\/a>Steele wrote for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fusion_GPS\">Fusion GPS<\/a>.\u00a0 This is one reason why Trump wants to discredit Ohr \u2013 he likely knows things the White House would rather keep under wraps.<\/p>\n<p>On a related note, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Saletan\">William Saletan<\/a> lays it all out at\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/\">Slate<\/a><\/em>::\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2018\/08\/trump-chose-putin-over-america-right-in-front-of-us.html\">We Already Know Trump is Betraying His Country<\/a>.\u00a0 This is a pretty good rundown of how <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> has put Russia and his wallet before America, including some thoughts on why, all in one place.<\/p>\n<p>At <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/\">The Atlantic<\/a><\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yuval_Noah_Harari\">Yuval Noah Harari<\/a> lays out his thoughts on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2018\/10\/yuval-noah-harari-technology-tyranny\/568330\/\">Why Technology Favors Tyranny<\/a>.\u00a0 He touches on something I\u2019ve given a lot of thought to: how will social norms change as technology replaces workers in the last remaining jobs that don\u2019t require complex education or training (e.g., long-haul truck drivers). If dying industry led to right-wing populism in rust-belt states, <em>what happens when artificial intelligence replaces every worker who drives something for a living<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/about\/\">Fred Clark<\/a>, a progressive Christian, writes about the intersection between religion and politics, among other things, at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/\">Slactivist<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 In a series he calls \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2018\/08\/03\/the-maga-commission-part-1\/\">The MAGA Commission<\/a>\u201d, Clark discusses the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Commission\">Great Commission Christ gave his followers to spread his word<\/a> and how the purpose and identity of evangelical Christianity has shifted from this missionary work to politics.\u00a0 Part One linked above; Parts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2018\/08\/06\/the-maga-commission-part-2\/\">Two<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2018\/08\/27\/the-maga-commission-contd\/\">Three<\/a> are also up.\u00a0 Clark is an excellent writer, and I urge all of you to check out his work.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/slacktivist\/2015\/11\/05\/left-behind-index-the-whole-thing\/\">His exegesis<\/a> of the truly awful (both as writing and theology)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Left_Behind\">Left Behind\u00a0<\/a>books and films is especially interesting \u2013 and funny as\u2026hell (sorry).<\/p>\n<p>Another Progressive Christian and former megachurch pastor fired for his \u201cprovocative\u201d (read: \u201cprogressive\u201d) writing, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Pavlovitz\">John Pavlovitz<\/a> asks Christians to <a href=\"https:\/\/johnpavlovitz.com\/2018\/08\/30\/christian-stop-blaming-god-for-your-lgbtq-hatred\/\">Stop Blaming God for your LGBTQ Hatred<\/a>.
