A couple of takeaways from \u201cTrump Orders Surrogates to Intensify Criticism of Judge and Journalists<\/a>\u201d at Bloomberg Politics<\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n

@realDonaldTrump<\/a> is a terrible leader and manager of staff.\u00a0 He had no idea which staff member had sent the memo telling surrogates not to discuss the Trump University lawsuit.\u00a0 Then he threw her under the bus, telling people on the call to \u201cthrow it out,\u201d and asking if there were \u201cany other stupid letters.\u201d\u00a0 \u201c\u2026you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren\u2019t all that smart,\u201d he told supporters (including Jan Brewer and Scott Brown) on the call. \u00a0He seems to forget that he\u2019s the incompetent executive who hired \u201cpeople who aren\u2019t all that smart\u201d in the first place.<\/p>\n

@realDonaldTrump<\/a> hasn\u2019t the foggiest idea what it takes to run a Presidential campaign or to assemble a winning political coalition.\u00a0 He has no idea how to build and run the organizations and teams necessary to win the Oval Office.\u00a0 If someone constructed it for him he would jerk it out of their hands like a toy he covets and start throwing it at the ground just to watch pieces fly off.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t understand who does what (communications, organizers, fundraisers) or how these people achieve success (data analysis, volunteer recruiting, media plans).\u00a0 He apparently doesn\u2019t realize<\/a> that political campaigns are highly specialized endeavors with a handful of professional experts who know how it\u2019s done.\u00a0 He has no use for either a sound strategic plan or expert guidance for the detailed tactical work needed to identify and motivate supporters.<\/p>\n

@realDonaldTrump<\/a> doesn\u2019t understand that bullying your way through the storm after saying something offensive won\u2019t help him expand his universe of potential supporters.\u00a0 He can\u2019t seem to help categorizing and referring to people as members of groups (Muslim, \u201cthe blacks,\u201d \u201cthe Hispanics,\u201d Mexican).\u00a0 People hear this as a claim that tribal membership is the most important quality people have \u2013 it drives their behavior.\u00a0 This is, of course, the very definition of racism \u2013 and I believe his willingness to say some of these things out loud has driven his popularity among many Republican primary voters.\u00a0 At this point, however, it\u2019s begun to offend his now wider audience.\u00a0 Rather than back off this rhetoric, he\u2019s asking surrogates to emphasize it.\u00a0 This, by the way, puts people like Jan Brewer and Scott Brown in a tough position \u2013 they want to elect a Republican President, but probably don\u2019t want to earn reputations as racists in the process.<\/p>\n

#TrumpWillNeverBePresident<\/a>.\u00a0 He\u2019s a terrible leader and can\u2019t manage subordinates except through fear.\u00a0 He calls junior staff \u201cstupid\u201d in front of other senior people.\u00a0 He hasn\u2019t the smallest clue what it takes to put together the national political coalition needed to win the US Presidency and apparently believes he can win simply by saying silly things on television so people pay attention to him.\u00a0 And when he says silly things on television and the people around him advise reticence, he lacks the temperament to realize he\u2019s in over his head.<\/p>\n

This is all very good news for Hillary Clinton<\/a> and the Democratic Party<\/a>. #TrumpWillNeverBePresident<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
